Below is a listing and description of the GTBBL's age bracketed divisions. The GTBBL offers a progressive basketball program that offers players the opportunity to grow and develop their skills at their own pace as they advance through each age division.

Games played at the Instructional and Novice division levels are designed to introduce the very young player to the game of basketball. Games are officiated by team coaches and are used strictly for instruction. All other Divisional Games are officiated by paid referees from Board 34.

GTBBL Divisions

(Non - Competitive Divisions)

INSTRUCTIONAL DIVISION
( Boys 7 & 8 years of age by
September 30)
The purpose of the Instructional Division program is to introduce young players to the game of Basketball with an emphasis on having fun while learning some of the basic skills of the game. There are no scores or standings kept during the season. Game play restrictions are in effect to help make young players feel comfortable with the game as they grow and develop their skills. Practices begin during the first week of November and run through December. The regular season begins the first week of January and runs until the end of March.
 

Competitive Divisions

FRESHMEN DIVISION
( Boys 9 &10 years of age by September 30)
The emphasis at the Freshmen level is to give players a more realistic perspective of the game of basketball with fewer game play restrictions. Players begin to concentrate on the fundamentals of offense and defense and game tactics. Player substitution rules for this division are in effect. Scores and
standings are kept with post-season action that includes
play-offs leading to a Divisional Championship. Practices
begin the first week of
November and run through December. The regular season begins the first week of January with play-offs and championship series ending by the second week of March.

SOPHOMORE DIVISION
( Boys 11 & 12 years of age by September 30)
At this level of competition Sophomore players focus on the mental aspects of the game including tactics, good decision making on the court, and creating scoring opportunities. The emphasis at this level of play is on technique and the mechanics of the game. Player substitution rules for this division are in effect with fewer game restrictions. Scores and standings are kept for play-off seeding leading to a Divisional Championship. Practices begin the first week of November and run through December. The regular season begins the first week of January with play-offs and championship series ending by the second week of March.

JUNIOR DIVISION
( Boys 13 & 14 years of age by September 30)
The Junior Division program concentrates on the refinement of players skills and techniques. Players are exposed to a variety of zone defenses with an emphasis on offensive play-making. Press restrictions and player substitution rules for this division are in effect. Scores and standings are kept with post-season action that includes play-offs and a Divisional Championship. Practices begin the first week of November and run through December. The regular season begins the first week of January with play-offs and championship series ending by the second week of March.

SENIOR DIVISION
( Boys 15 to18 years of age by September 30)
The Senior Division utilizes High School playing rules. Teams employ a variety of zone defenses along with man to man coverage's. Full and half court presses are used. Strong emphasis is placed on conditioning, good decision making on the court, and tactics. Player substitution rules for this division are in effect. Scores and standings are kept for play-off seeding competing for the Divisional Championship. Practices begin the first week of November and run through December. The regular season begins the first week of January with play-offs and championship series ending by the second week of March. Selected players participate in the Senior Division All-Star Game during GTBBL March Madness Week.

Note: A player is still eligible to play in the Senior Division at age 18 if they are still a student attending High School.
